We were talking about International Day of Persons with Disabilities yesterday. We talked about how great it is to see so many dedicated to eradicating visible and invisible barriers for persons with disabilities.

Henry asked, “Shouldn’t Every Day be International Day of Person’s with Disabilities? We can’t stop at one day. Many “International Days of Persons with Disabilities” will make changes for everyone then we won’t need a special day to talk about making changes. We will just have one day to celebrate people with disabilities.”

Later, when Russ came home we talked about it again. Russ asked, Shouldn’t every day be International Day of Persons with Disabilities? Henry borrowed a line from one of his favorite movies, Hairspray and said ” At our house it already is”.

Right now persons with disabilities do not have equal access to society or services, including education, employment, health care, transportation, political participation or justice.

That’s not okay.

Each one of us, with and without disabilities, must commit to changing this. Now.

Make a pledge to ensure the inclusion and full participation for each member of our society. Do something today.

What will you do?
