Friends and relatives also remember the heroic principal as a born leader, charismatic teen, devoted young mom and gifted educator. She was a loving daughter, hard-working student-athlete, passionate, award-winning teacher, admired school principal, devoted wife and dedicated mother and grandmother.

Hochsprung was a champion for children, for equal rights and above all, for her daughters.

Sandy Hook Elementary School Princial Dawn Hochsprung‘s family have established a scholarship fund in her name to benefit graduates of her alma mater, Naugatuck (CT) High School, which is local less than 20 miles from the Newtown school.

Hochsprung’s daughter, Erica Lafferty said,“Our family has decided the scholarship fund will be for an NHS student pursuing a career in education, a student who has a deep passion for inspiring the love and learning in children.”.
