Project Description

All families are diverse.

Some families – like ours-  have members whose neurology is more diverse than the dominant majority

Parents and siblings whose neurology falls into the neuromajority aren’t doing anything heroic by being a good mom or dad, brother or sister to their siblings whose neurology lies outside that majority.

The dominant narrative in the mainstream media is that neurotypical siblings are heroes who take care of and speak for their neurodivergent sibling. This perpetuates ableist attitudes that infantilize disabled people. It’s time to own our family stories and dismantle the saintly- heroic-special-I-could-never-do-what-you-do  “special needs” family trope.
