Team Hoyt has completed close to 1,100 races. The father and son team of Rick and Dick Hoyt were honored with a life sized bronze statue commemorating their 31st Boston Marathon this Monday. When they were near the last mile of the marathon the explosions that killed three people and injured over one hundred went off.

Many have suggested that they complete the final mile to honor the victims, but the Hoyts don’t feel comfortable with that.

“This isn’t about us,” Dick Hoyt said. “If anything, we want to run the marathon next year to honor those people who were killed or injured this year. … We’re hoping we can do that next year — we’re getting old and all of that — but that’s my feeling about it. We’re just praying for those families right now.”
